Conflict in Ukraine causes crude oil prices to surge

LOCAL UNDATED – Crude oil prices surged after Russia launched its military invasion of Ukraine according to the American Automobile Association. Illinois has seen a spike in prices statewide, up 7 cents from last week, now averaging $3.77 per gallon compared to $2.90 last year. LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties’ prices reflect an increase in prices as well, averaging between $3.65 to $3.70 cents per gallon. The AAA says as the conflict escalates with more sanctions and retaliatory actions, the oil markets will likely respond by continuing to increase the price of crude oil to reflect more risk of disruption to tight global oil supplies.
