Couple finds abandoned baby on subway; “now he’s our son”

Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for April 3rd:
Danny Stewart was rushing to meet his boyfriend for dinner one evening when he ran past something lying on the floor of a New York subway station.
Danny could hardly believe it. It was a baby boy.
“He didn’t have any clothes on, he was just wrapped up in this sweatshirt. His umbilical cord was still partially intact, so I could tell he was a newborn. I was thinking maybe a day or so old,” he says.
Danny hurried and called the police. When the police took longer to come than anticipated, he thought the police felt it was a prank. He phoned his boyfriend, Pete, and Pete managed to arrive at the train station just as the baby was being taken by the police for a medical examination.
The story was all over the news. Danny received an invite from the Administration for Children’s Services to attend a family court hearing, to testify how he found the baby. When this took place, in December 2000, the judge asked Danny if he could stay for the entire hearing. Eventually, he made the swift decision to adopt the baby. 20 years later, the three are a happy family with their adopted son, Kevin!
It’s a long story but one worth reading. Check it out on BBC!
