Sen. Rezin votes no on FY2020 budget that includes pay raise for lawmakers

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Sue Rezin voted no on the fiscal year 2020 budget. On Wednesday, Gov. J.B. Prizker signed a nearly $40 billion state budget along with a measure that could lead to enacting a graduated income tax, and a pay raise for lawmakers. According to Sen. Rezin, she voted no as it allows for a pay increase for Illinois lawmakers. She says, we, as legislators, are in Springfield to serve our residents, not to take large pay increases on the backs of taxpayers. The annual pay raise for legislators is $1,600. The income tax measure that will be on the November 2020 ballot asks voters whether they want to switch from a flat-rate income tax to one based on income. If approved, the new scaled approach would take effect in January 2021.
