Streator Fire Presents Plans for 2019 and Beyond

STREATOR – Streator’s Fire Chief Gary Bird presented his annual strategic plan at a city of a whole meeting on Tuesday. This year, goals for the fire department consisted of various risk reduction programs like fall prevention, a program that would provide house inspections to help at risk citizens avoid a fall from home. Chief Bird says the department will also start a juvenile fire setters program aimed to educate children on fires. He says it’s not uncommon for parents to bring their children into the department after they’ve played with fire. Currently, the department has 12 trained firefighters as interventionalists that would serve to interview children, providing parents with necessary resources moving forward. Bird says another major goal for the city is to train 25 percent of the community in CPR.
