Flooding protocol in the works for Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY – Spring Valley’s water department is putting together a safety protocol for flooding. After flooding of the Illinois River last week, City Engineer Mike Richetta came up with a spread sheet showing river stages to use as the city’s new water surface elevation for the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Although the city experienced no flooding at the plant, a worst case scenario safety plan will be implemented to executive specific action for certain water elevations. Richetta says the water department will asses the needs of the plant based off of critical points on the spread sheet. He doesn’t expect not being able to access the plant until reaching record flood stage at 34.4 feet.
