Out of the Darkness Walk leaders hope to raise more awareness in the community

OTTAWA – Folks from all different walks of life will gather this weekend in Ottawa to advocate for one cause: suicide prevention. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the Law Offices of Peter F. Feracutti will host the 6th Annual Out of the Darkness Walk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Washington Square Park in Ottawa. The walk serves as a fundraiser for the foundation, which advocates for legislation in suicide prevention, creates educational programs, and supports survivors of suicide loss statewide. Member of the AFSP and sponsor Alexis Ferracuti says it’s more than just raising money for suicide prevention, but is about support within the community.

This year, AFSP is bringing back pumpkin carving so teams may carve a pumpkin in memorial to loved ones lost to be left as luminaries overnight. So far the LaSalle County team has raised $25,000 and hopes to reach $45,000 by Saturday.
