OGLESBY – A group of Illinois Valley Community College students is organizing a peaceful, 17-minute “walk-out” on campus at noon Thursday in honor of the 17 students and staff killed in the Parkland, Fla., tragedy.
The event is not an officially sponsored college event, and per the student organizers, is not partisan or political. Students who have class that hour and intend to participate should consider their instructor’s attendance policy. Faculty teaching that hour are asked to remind students of their attendance policy.
“We respect each individual’s right to peacefully demonstrate and exercise their freedom of expression, thought and speech,” said IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.
