MENDOTA- Certified Car Seat Installers were busy assisting residents in making sure their loved ones were secure during a car seat safety check at the Mendota Fire Department on Saturday. Mendota Police along with Peru Police were on hand inspecting and re-installing car seats. New rules in Illinois require rear facing seats until the age of two unless they weigh more than 40 pounds or are more than 40 inches tall, and forward facing seats and boosters up to the age of 8. Parents and grandparents were instructed on the new rules, plus received tips on installing seats securely. The Peru Police will be holding a similar event in September.
