PERU – Authorities hopped into action to capture a loose marsupial that jumped away from his owner on Wednesday afternoon. Without skipping a beat, Peru and LaSalle police leaped at the chance to track Wally the Wallaroo for over an hour. Animal Control was able to bounce to the scene to help capture Wally, but he bounded into the Illinois River, where he was netted by fishermen nearby and taken safely to shore. The owner was not available for comment. According to the Peru Police Department, Wally was taken to an area veterinarian for observation.
