As a movie-buff, I’d be down for this in a heartbeat.
While the exact location hasn’t been announced, Beyond Cinema, an Australian production company, said the Floating Boat Cinema is scheduled for Sept. 9-13 in Chicago.
The idea is a large screen is positioned on a pier and viewers can grab a few friends and sail out on the river and watch a film while bobbing in the water.
Tickets require you to purchase the boat, however, and have up to eight people.
The only stipulation I’d have is that if I were to go, I’d prefer to watch a film I have already seen. I think the bobbing and weaving would be a distraction for a new movie. I’d also preferably not like to watch Jaws, Open Water, or a comparable film of that class.
