Gateway Services holds seventh annual online silent auction

Gateway Services will hold its seventh annual Online Silent Auction from noon Sunday, June 7, through 9 p.m. Sunday, June 14.The auction items will be available for bidding on Gateway Service’s Facebook page. The items feature a photo, description and starting bid. Participants can increase the bids in $1 increments. The auction winners will be attendees with the highest bids. The auction items can be collected beginning Monday, June 15. Auction items will be posted online on Sunday, June 7. Jimmy John’s is coming to Mendota

Jimmy John’s is coming to Mendota.Art Riewaldt won a city bid for the property at Washington Street and Illinois Route 251 with an offer of $40,000.Riewaldt, who operates Jimmy John’s locations in Peru, Spring Valley and Princeton, outbid Sandro Guzman of Tacos Guzman, who offered $25,000 for the same site.The property at 1209 Washington St. sits next to First Federal Savings Bank and is the former site of an ice cream shop. The city paid $250,000 to demolish and remediate the building after it became unusable, according to City Clerk Emily McConville.Mayor Dave Boelk said the bid awarded to Riewaldt was contingent upon construction of a new building at the site.“We’re thrilled to continue to bring in businesses that support the well-being of our citizens,” Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Madeline Piller said. “We want to thank Art Riewaldt for choosing Mendota.”

La Salle man charged with drug delivery after Saturday raid

A La Salle man faces up to 30 years if convicted of charges stemming from a Saturday drug raid of his residence.Joshua D. Bostick, 32, was picked up on a La Salle County warrant charging him with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, plus one count of driving while revoked.One of the possession charges is a Class X felony carrying six to 30 years in prison with no possibility of probation and the other is a Class 1 felony carrying four to 15 years. Driving while revoked is a Class 4 felony carrying one to three years.He was taken into custody after agents of the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team, the La Salle Police Department, and a La Salle County K-9 Unit executed the warrant. Bostick was transported to the La Salle County Jail, where he awaits a detention hearing.

Illinois Valley Community College recently recognized 200 students for academic achievement at its annual Student Academic Awards ceremony.The Thomas J.
