Ladd library to hold The Lego Man program May 16

The Ladd Public Library will hold a program featuring Cody Wells, aka The Lego Man of NYC, for community members ages five and older from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Ladd Community Center, 303 S. Central Ave.Attendees will be able to build Lego creations alongside Wells. Prizes will also be awarded.Wells is one of the country’s most sought-after Lego artists. He works with libraries, schools, museums and private clients to lead classes, give talks and inspire children nationally.The program costs $5. Registration is required. Walnut library to offer floral workshop July 15

The Walnut Public Library District will partner with The Shed and Petals By Peyton to offer a bookworm floral workshop for residents at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at The Shed, 134 S. Main St., Walnut.Participants can create a floral arrangement in a classic book ceramic vase. Attendees will be able to select book titles including “The Raven,” “Pride and Prejudice,” and “Through the Looking Glass.”The workshop costs $35 for a small vase and $55 for a large vase. Illinois Valley Community College Foundation marks 50 years with dinner and auction

The Illinois Valley Community College Foundation recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a dinner and auction on Friday, March 27.The celebration’s keynote speaker was Illinois Valley Community College student Laquan Coleman. Coleman explains how valuable IVCC’s support is for students in seeking their educational dreams.“The evening was truly remarkable. The generosity displayed, combined with a deep appreciation for our history and a shared commitment to the success of our students, made for an unforgettable experience.” Illinois Valley Community College Foundation executive director Tracy Beattie said in a news release.“It is difficult to fully express the significance of the occasion. I extend my sincere gratitude to all who donated, volunteered, and attended. Your support is deeply appreciated.” Beattie also said in the news release.The foundation was established through a $100,000 bequest from retired elementary school teacher Helen Taylor of Peru in 1976. The Illinois Valley Community College Foundation has led programs and services, fundraising and financial support. The foundation also encourages community and alumni donors to help reduce the burden for students.
