There’s a bird native to New Zealand called the kākāpō. They’re the only flightless parrot in the world, and they’re endangered. Less than 250 are left in the wild.
One of the things killing them is a disease with a fun name . . . crusty bum disease. But a new study found antibiotics used to treat it seem to be working.
Experts were worried that giving them the drugs too much might cause antibiotic resistance. But the study found that’s not happening yet. So they can keep using the antibiotics to help build the population back up.
