Lightning likely cause of fire that destroys rural Mendota shed

MENDOTA – A shed was destroyed after a fire likely caused by lightning Friday morning in rural Mendota. The Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments were called to the 4300 block of US Route 34 around 1 AM after a resident noticed flames from the structure. Earlville, Paw Paw and LaSalle Fire Departments assisted in tackling the blaze. According to Mendota Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser, no injuries were reported.
