Athlete turned thief tries to escape arrest

SHASTA COUNTY, CA — A 26-year-old man was wanted for questioning regarding a burglary earlier that day.  He tried to flee the police through a high-speed chase until he could no longer drive his vehicle because he had boxed himself in driving through backyards.  He then took off on foot until he found a motorcycle to steal.  Still evading authorities he came to a dead end at the Sacramento River, so he jumped in and swam across.  Once he was on land, he climbed a tree in an attempt to escape.  Police caught up with him and surrounded the base of the tree until he came down and was put in handcuffs.
