OGLESBY – The North Central Illinois region is at peak season for boundless fall foliage changes. Lisa Sons Park Naturalist for Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks says this year we’ll have vibrant colors she hasn’t seen in years.
Sons says waterfalls in the Starved Rock/Matthiessen State Park area have been dry since mid-July so she was worried the area would see another dull season, being LaSalle County’s second season in a drought, but colors have been changing since September. The vast color change may be triggered by some early frosts and late rains at the end of September into October.
