OTTAWA – Fitness areas, outdoor game activities, and shelter overlooks were presented to Ottawa community members by a landscaping group that plans to make major upgrades to Allen Park. Hitchcock Design Group hosted the community input meeting to gather suggestions and announce plans to apply for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant with the state. Andrew Howard, Hitchcock landscaping engineer says the design of the park will be reconfigured to be farther from the flood zone.
Some suggestions from community members included more green space, traditional swing sets, and accessible parking spaces. The over million-dollar OSLAD Grant application will be due for submittal by the end of September and Howard says the design group expects to hear back from the state by early next year. If the grant is awarded, a follow-up meeting will be held in the near future.
