Iowa restaurants gives BBQ meals to people affected by powerful storm


Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for August 21st:
Last week, a powerful storm known as a “derecho” rocked the Midwest and caused widespread damage in large part due to hurricane-strength winds. It left several people’s homes decimated with debris and branches all over roads and yards.
One restaurant in Iowa is doing their part to give back to those impacted by the devastation. Barbeque restaurant owner Willie Fairley is working his grill at Willie Ray’s Q Shack to provide neighbors with at least 400 meals daily at no cost.
“It’s terrible right now. You got a lot of people still without power,” Fairley told CNN. “We’re just trying to do what we can as a company to make sure we did our part.
More than 800 residential and commercial buildings suffered full or partial collapse of the roof, walls, ceiling or floors according to a local Fire Chief. Fairley prides himself on community service and it’s a beautiful thing to see his hospitality extend to his neighbors after a year that’s already brought many of us new hardships.
