Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for July 20th:
Justin was in the middle of a 10-day rafting trip on the Red Deer and South Saskatchewan rivers when he heard a commotion coming from the water.
“He said it sounded like a dog fight so he parked his raft and hiked up to a higher elevation to investigate. However, he wasn’t able to see anything so he went back to his raft to go fishing.”
He saw an animal he initially couldn’t make out struggling to stay afloat. Trying to reach for the animal led to Justin falling into the frozen waters, but he somehow managed to locate the drowning coyote pup and get him on the raft to safety. The coyote wasn’t breathing when he got on the raft, but once again, Justin acted quickly, administered CPR, and the pup was revived in a matter of moments.
Being that Justin was in the middle of his excursion, he couldn’t necessarily head home, so he decided to care for the coyote, which he named “YipYip.”
“The little pup would eat with Justin, cuddle in his jacket, and sleep in his backpack while they rafted down the river. Justin ended up naming the little guy YipYip and took really good care of him throughout the trip.”
Once back on land with cell-service, he called his wife and the two took YipYip to a treatment facility. He’s currently with an animal rehabber, according to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Saskatchewan’s Instagram post.
