Two friends raised thousands, bought devices for nursing home residents to video-call their family


Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for March 26th:
Most nursing homes across the United States are understandably not allowing visitors amidst the outbreak of COVID-19. That’s why two friends, Jill Ashworth Valadao and Sarah Otis Firth, decided to start “FaceTime for Nana,” an online charity campaign geared towards raising money in order to supply seniors with iPads to communicate with their families.
They set the goal pretty low but ended up getting $5,000 in practically no time.
“During such a difficult time, these sweet gestures literally make the residents days,” an activity director at a nursing home stated.
I’ve been prioritizing calling family and friends over the last several days, touching base with them for about an hour just to catch up on life and ramble. It’s essential during this time, in my mind. The fact that many people will now be able to be in touch with their children and grandkids is a heartwarming thought.
