Man saves baby from car moments before it bursts into flames in Peoria

Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for March 9th:
A baby girl has John Railey to thank for saving her life after her mother’s car burst into flames in Peoria on Saturday night.
Railey was leaving a restaurant after his birthday dinner when he saw two men get out of a car and a woman violently kicking the back door. Smoke was billowing out of the vehicle. Railey acted quickly, ran up to the car, slashed the deployed airbags, and retrieved the child.
“I took a final swoop, and I found her. I took off, and then 30 seconds, minute later, I look back and the whole car was engulfed in flames.”
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Nate Rice even said if it weren’t for Railey, the baby could have died.
“We certainly don’t want anybody to get hurt, but that might be their nature to make that choice to possibly save a life or help another person,” he added.
This is one of those situations you never know how you’ll respond to until you’re in the moment. Railey responded almost instantly, blessed so, and no one was seriously injured. It’s somewhat heartwarming to know that heroes are everywhere, and in this case, practically in our own backyard.
