I believe my mother would go to the moon and back for me…but I’d like to see her try and ski 125 miles in the freezing cold.
D.C. native Alison Reynolds did just that, and in doing so, raised about $1 million from supporters to fund research for phenylketonuria, a rare metabolic condition afflicting her teenage daughter. She started skiing in Norway on February 21st and just returned home this past Monday.
The million she raised was twice her initial goal. She skied 15 miles every day along the border of Sweden. Prior to that she trained for more than a year, packed heavy for the voyage, and returned home to a barrage of cards and well-wishes from total strangers. Her daughter is clearly elated and inspired by her mother’s abilities.
