Police respond to little girl’s 911 call about her “injured” stuffed animal

Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for March 2nd:
This is one of those stories that’s equal parts adorable and could serve as a teachable moment for a young child. Thankfully, it’s both.
Police officers in Colorado responded to a 911 call made by a six-year-old girl whose plush bunny was apparently “injured.” The girl had been playing with her mother’s presumably inactive phone when she made the call.
The officers did their do-diligence and arrived, and while one officer attended to the bunny’s “wounds,” another gave the young girl a talk about when/how to call 911.
“Natalie, if bunny’s hurt, we don’t need to call 911,” the police officer said. “But if you’re hurt or mommy’s hurt, absolutely call us, OK?”
I never purposefully/accidentally called 911 was a child, but I knew several kids who did and probably didn’t receive the kind of innocent talking-to this little girl got. But the officer stated that he welcomed the experience.
“The last thing that I want is for kids to be scared of us [and] be scared of the services we can provide and to not come to us when they need help,” he said.
Nothing wrong with a teachable moment. No word on the bunny’s condition at this time, however.
