PERU – The city of Peru’s public works department reported 2,000 tons of salt used during this winter season. Public Works Service Manager and Fire Chief Jeff King says the amount of salt used so far is equivalent to the total amount used for the entire winter season last year. King says while conditions have been horrible for him and his men, they’ve done a great job so far in laying down salt. He says they’re not done laying down salt and expects 500 tons to be delivered by next week. King says a single water main break was reported during the polar vortex, but expects more when temperatures warm up.
