WASHINGTON DC – The Surface Transportation Board has rejected the application by the Great Lakes Basin Railroad to construct a 272 mile rail line that was proposed to run from Wisconsin through Illinois to Indiana.
The plan, which has been in the works since 2013, had caused many area property owners and concerned residents to speak up about the project. It was planned to travel through Lee County and northern LaSalle County.
Frank Patton, founder and primary investor in the Great Lakes Basin Railroad, had earlier announced plans to also include a tollway along a portion of the route from Indiana to Illinois.
The Surface Transportation Board is the agency charged by Congress with reviewing proposed transportation projects. In the decision, the board rejected the application and discontinued the environmental review.
