MORRIS, –  State Senator Sue Rezin announced her campaign for re-election to the State Senate to continue to work with the families of the 38th District to fight for their needs at the Illinois statehouse.

“My team and I are focused on promoting legislation that will support law enforcement and mental health organizations, and will increase public safety and lower taxes in our neighborhoods and around the state,” Sen. Rezin said. “After speaking with countless constituents, business leaders, and elected officials in our district, I believe there is still more work to do together, and I am honored by the support of my campaign to continue to represent this amazing community.”

Sen. Rezin is known as one of the hardest-working members of the Illinois Senate, who works with all stakeholders to craft and support legislation to improve economic opportunities in her district.

She helped lead the successful defeat of the governor’s dangerous progressive income tax, which would have given legislators even more power to raise taxes on Illinois families. She also was awarded theTransformer of the Year Award by Transform Illinois for her relentless fight to lower property taxes in Illinois.

A dedicated advocate for all life, Sen. Rezin helped lead her caucus’ fight opposing Gov. Pritzker’s repeal of the Parental Notification Act that allows children to receive abortions without notifying their parent or guardian.

“As a mother of four, I believe that parents, rather than politicians, know what is best for our children and I am dedicated to fighting against the political elite who continue to overreach into the everyday lives and decisions of Illinois families,” Sen. Rezin said.

She also led her caucus in calling for investigations into the horrific systematic failures at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home on how multiple administrative failures contributed to the death of 36 veterans. Unhappy with the results, she went further in introducing legislation to change how the state responds to outbreaks to better protect our state’s heroes.

“Our veterans deserve better,” Rezin said. “We must stand up for those who gave their all to stand up for us. I will remain vigilant on this issue to try and make it harder for bureaucrats to skirt their responsibility to our brave service members in the future.”

Leader Rezin was the Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars’ 2018 Legislator of the Year.

To continue her dedication to those in need of the most support, Sen. Rezin authored and passed legislation preventing elder abuse and protecting those with pre-existing health conditions.

A former school board member, Sen. Rezin has made improving educational opportunities for children in her district a top priority throughout her career. Aside from her work at the statehouse, she teamed up with local partners to establish the Grundy County Summer Internship Program and the Operations Engineering and Technician technical program at Joliet Junior College and was honored with the prestigious Legislator of the Year award for her work on behalf of community colleges.

Sen. Rezin was elected to the Illinois Legislature in 2010, and currently serves as the Senate Republican Deputy Leader. She sits on several committees including the influential Senate Executive and Joint Committee on Administrative Rules Committees.

As the Minority Spokesperson on the Senate Energy and Public Utilities, Sen. Rezin led Senate Republican negotiations this year’s comprehensive energy legislation that passed with bipartisan support to save thousands of jobs in Illinois and keep costs as low as possible for ratepayers while reducing our carbon footprint.

Nationally, Sen. Rezin serves on the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Executive Committee and Energy Supply Task Force and on the National Foundation for Women Legislators’ Board of Directors, an organization that honored her with the 2020 Women of Excellence Award.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business and Political Science with a minor in Hispanic Studies from Augustana College and is a graduate of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government’s Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program.

Sen. Rezin has a long history of volunteerism in her community, including twenty-five years as a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Illinois, a volunteer for the Edgar Fellows leadership program and as a Board Member and past Vice President for the Community Foundation of Greater Grundy County.

Sen. Rezin lives in Morris with her husband Dr. Keith Rezin and is the co-owner and manager of her family’s real estate company. Together they have four adult children.

The newly drawn 38th District includes all or part of the following counties: Bureau, DeKalb, Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle, and Will.
