A months-long rescue effort for nine giraffes stranded on the Longicharo Island in Kenya is a success. All the giraffes have been rescued and safely relocated.
Rising waters threatened the giraffes’ home in Kenya’s Lake Baringo. Save Giraffes Now partnered with Northern Rangelands Trust and local conservation agencies to pull off the operation. The giraffes are Rothschild’s giraffes, which is one of the most endangered populations in the entire species.
The waters on the Longicharo Island have been rising for sometime, but the good news is the giraffes have a new, safer home.
