SPRINGFIELD – Helping to protect the earned wages and tips of workers, state Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, helped pass critical legislation ensuring that employees collect their money.

“The working men and women of my district deserve to keep every penny they earn,” said Yednock. “My legislation protects workers by ensuring that they will be given to them, and this will help workers spend their money on local businesses, creating more local jobs down the road.”

Yednock passed House Bill 3405, which would allow employees to receive the tips they earn in full, preventing their employers from withholding those earned wages. Under this measure, employees would still be able to pool their tips together if they chose; however, employers would have no authority to influence that either.

“Allowing workers to keep more of their money will not only help build a stronger Illinois, but it will strengthen families in the Illinois Valley,” said Yednock. “Too many people live paycheck to paycheck, and it would be unfair to withhold any money from someone who put in the long hours to earn additional wages.”
