OTTAWA  – State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, and the Illinois Housing Development Authority have announced the development of a new affordable senior housing complex, planned to be opened in 2020 in the village of Ladd in Bureau County. The project will be located south of Cleveland Street between Chicago and Bureau avenues and should take about one year to build, from start to finish.

“The lack of affordable senior housing options is a problem statewide but the need is even greater here in the Illinois Valley,” said Yednock. “When going door to door, I frequently hear about the need for affordable housing for our seniors. Many families do not have the space or accessibility to comfortably house their loved ones or the resources for private care. Because of this new development, our neighbors won’t have to travel far and wide to visit their loved ones due to the lack of affordable housing for seniors. Having such a centrally located development between Putnam and LaSalle counties is an ideal scenario for many families in the Illinois Valley.”

Oak Grove Development Corporation and the Laborers’ Home Development Corporation are responsible for the construction of a new, 40-unit building for seniors aged 55 or older. The development will include a community room, fitness room, computer room and outdoor playground for visiting children. The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) Board of Directors announced that they will fund 25 affordable housing developments in 16 counties throughout Illinois, one of them being the new development in Bureau County.

“Our seniors have worked all their lives to contribute to our communities, and many now live on fixed incomes, trying to balance the high cost of housing and utilities combined with health care and medication,” said Yednock. “This complex will allow peace of mind for those seniors and their families to know they will now have the affordable housing and care that they deserve. The development of this complex will also generate new opportunities for our communities and stimulate our local economy through both short and long term employment while attracting employers and employees to the area. I want to thank all of those involved in this process to help bring this new complex to our area and for their work in making sure our seniors have access to comfortable and affordable housing.”
