STREATOR – A Streator High School was put on lock down after a conversation between students about guns and school violence. According to a release made by Woodland School District Superintendent Ryan McGuckin, on Thursday afternoon, the administration was made aware of a comment made at Woodland High School during a presentation regarding the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It was found that the comment was a continuation of a conversation had on a Woodland bus earlier. Due to the nature of the discussion, high school students reported the topics of discussion, that included active shooters and school violence, to the administration. According to McGuckin, the administration put the high school on lock-down and the students involved in the discussion were searched and interviewed. Following the interview, Woodland’s school resource Office along with the administration visited the residence of the student reportedly centered in the investigation. It was reported that the student was free of firearms of any kind and had no access to weapons. McGuckin says the district is in full cooperation with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and the family of the student to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff. It was also determined that the student does not pose a threat to the safety and well being of students, teachers and staff at Woodland. Anyone with further information regarding the incident is urged to contact Superintendent Ryan McGuckin or the Livingston County Police Department.
