Winnebago County Coroner facing multiple charges of theft

ROCKFORD – The Winnebago County Coroner and his wife are both facing charges after an investigation by the Illinois State Police into alleged forgery and theft. In February, the ISP say they began to look into the spending of 50-year-old Coroner Bill Hintz and 50-year-old Michelle Hintz, both of Roscoe. Authorities say they allegedly used a Winnebago County credit card for personal purchases. Bill is facing 16 felony counts and Michelle is facing 6 felony counts. Both bonded out of the Winnebago county jail Friday afternoon.
Bill Hintz is facing eight counts of Forgery (Class 3 Felonies), one count of Theft of Government Funds $10,000 to $100,000 (Class 1 Felony), one count of Theft $10,000 to $100,000 (Class 2 Felony), five counts of Official Misconduct (Class 3 Felonies), one count of Conspiracy to Commit Theft (Class 2 Felony), one count of Conspiracy to Commit Credit Card Fraud (Class A Misdemeanor).
Michelle Hintz is facing three counts of Unlawful Use of Credit Card (Class 4 Felonies), one count of Conspiracy to Commit Theft (Class 2 Felony), one count of Conspiracy to Commit Theft (Class A Misdemeanor), one count of Theft of Government Funds $10,000 to $100,000 (Class 1 Felony), and one count of Theft $10,000 to $100,000 (Class 2 Felony).
