Volunteers help shuck tons of corn for Sweet Corn Festival

MENDOTA – The delicious buttered sweet corn will be given away Sunday at the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival thanks to the hours put in by dozens of volunteers.   Residents from Mendota and nearby communities were joined by 38 cadets from the Lincoln Challenge Academy in Rantoul.   Jaime Eaker, Deputy Director said they are a quasi-military school for at risk youth in the state of Illinois.  The teens worked along side volunteers of all ages to shuck and clean tons of locally grown sweet corn, getting all of it shucked in just under four hours.
