Unytite Drive expansion begins soon

PERU – Pretty soon the streets of Peru will be busy with construction projects. Recently, the city approved of projects to begin this fall, including the Unytite Drive extension. The road will be expanded from Donlar Avenue to Plank Road on the north side of Peru. The extension is part of a series of projects aimed at improving rail access and expanding the routes needed to safely and efficiently haul materials produced in the city. The total cost of the rail and road project is just shy of $5 million. The city is said to have zero commitment to the rail improvements, but are putting in over $700,000 to the Unytite expansion. City Engineer Eric Carls says most of the work will be completed next year in the spring.
