SPARLAND – Two Peoria residents are dead after a two vehicle crash that also injured a Mount Prospect man. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office say they were called to Route 29 north of Sparland for what investigators are saying was a head on collision. Around 2:15 PM 72-year-old Francis Hornung and 63-year-old Susan Hornung, both of Peoria, were traveling south when for unknown reasons the driver, Francis, entered the northbound lane. A northbound vehicle driven by a 55-year-old Mount Prosect man was unable to avoid Hornung’s vehicle. Susan was pronounced dead at the scene and Francis was taken to an area hospital where he later passed away. The driver of the northbound vehicle was being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
