Suspect in Custody After Numerous Smash and Grab Burglaries

MENDOTA- A Mendota man is in custody after what authorities say was numerous smash and grab burglaries.   The Mendota Police Department on Thursday took 54-year-old Craig J. Hynes into custody and charged him with two counts of burglary pending a mental health evaluation.  Authorities say he is suspected in damaging seven different businesses in the downtown area, plus dozens of other suspected thefts.  Thursday morning he is suspected of damaging windows on Main Street and Washington Street. Police Chief Gregory Kellen said Hynes has been previously detained on multiple occasions for mental health and psychological evaluations stemming from previous aggravated assaults, indecent exposures and other lewd acts.

Bill Grzeskiewicz, owner of a building in the 700 block of Main St, assisted by Ben Garcia, boards up one of the three windows damaged by allegedly by the same individual around 9 AM Thursday in Mendota.
