GENESEO – A 30-year-old man is dead after allegedly firing on Henry County deputies during a traffic stop on Tuesday. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office say that around 4 AM they attempted to stop a truck in a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, then brake-checked the troopers vehicle, damaging the cruiser and wedging it under the truck near US Route 6. Two subjects in the vehicle exited, and a male subject identified as Jeffery R. Blunk of Geneseo, allegedly fired what authorities believe was a shotgun at the trooper. The passenger in the vehicle was apprehended, but Blunk fled on foot, causing a widespread search that ended at a car wash in Geneseo, where a 90 minute standoff ensued. The Geneseo Police Department say that after attempted negotiations Blunk was shot and killed by a US Marshal around 11:30 AM. The incident is still under investigation.
