OTTAWA – Ottawa’s Fire Chief commended a homeowner in evacuating their family during a house fire on Howard Street, Sunday morning. Fire Chief Andrew Borkowski says it could have been a lot worse. Firefighters were called to the 900 block of Howard street at 6:20 a.m. on Sunday for a house fire and found that all five occupants had evacuated safely. The fire was controlled in less than 10 minutes, but with help from residents. Borkowski says the homeowner shut the bedroom door to where the fire originated, preventing further damage. He says the cause of the fire was due to an overloaded power strip. All together, the blaze caused around $20,000 worth of casualties.
