STREATOR – Intergovernmental ambulance service agreements between the city of Streator, Reading, Long Point, and Allen township are on the discussion board for Streator officials at their committee meeting on Tuesday. At the beginning of the month, the city began providing EMS services to residents and those in Reading, Long Point, and portions of Allen Township.
In the Long Point and Allen Township agreements, the communities will be charged $450 per call.  Also in the agreement with Allen Township, Streator will cover the western portion including Ransom and Kernan as a backup. City Manager Dave Plyman says Reading and Long Point will need to gain authority by referendum to levy a property tax in order to pay for ambulance services. The contract discounts EMS charges until the communities gain funding authority. In the contract, there will be a 25,000 charge to cover calls through April of next year, then an additional 25,000 through the end of the year. If the referendum passes, the district will also be charged $450 per call in 2024 for a three-year minimum.
