STREATOR – Streator High School is asking teachers how they feel about an academic schedule change. According to Principal Amy Jo Mascal, the Schedule Support Committee has been working for over a year to study three different forms of academic scheduling for students to better prepare for graduation, testing and career/college readiness. Last week , the committee distributed a survey listing three potential ideas for teachers to give feedback on.  Idea one, is a freshman academy concept where the freshman have a separate group of teachers within a designated wing in the school. Mascal says this idea would support the freshman on track motive. Idea two is a 15 to 30 minute advisory period, a time set out where students meet in a designated group under the advisement of a teacher. Mascal says it’s targeted to each student to meet their academic needs. The last idea is a block schedule where students have longer class periods that meet fewer times each week. Mascal says the block schedule allows students to take more electives and make up a class they failed during the school year, instead of in the summer or the following year. Next month, members of the Schedule Support Committee with present a proposal to board members.
