Streator gets greener with street lights

By: Nate Steiner

STREATOR – ComEd is helping Streator go green with an LED streetlight program. Spokesman Jeff Hetrick with ComEd says the goal of the program is to switch out all of the high pressure sodium and mercury vapor streetlights with LED lights. He reported they have replaced nearly half of the 1200 streetlights. So far, the LED streetlights have netted the city around $37,000 in savings and conserves enough electricity to power 135 homes. ComEd will also install a smart feature on the lights that will alert the utility for repairs.
