Streator Fire Department receives recognition for cardiac arrest saves

STREATOR – The city of Streator achieved three times the national average for cardiac arrest resuscitations in 2020. The Streator Fire Department received a plaque of honor from Advanced Medical Transport for their increased cardiac arrest saves last year. According to AMT officials, the Streator Fire Department increased their rate through cardiac arrest resuscitation equipment, one of the first cities to use the new devices in the region. In 2020 the city cared for 20 people who suffered cardiac arrests, with five being successful and five able to leave the hospital. The national average of successes is 8.5% and Streator performed three times the rate.
