STREATOR – The city of Streator authorized the purchase of high tech medical equipment for the Streator EMS. In a council meeting on Wednesday, the city authorized the purchase of a CPR Monitor that gives real-time feedback while a person is performing CPR, indicating how hard and fast the compressions are being performed and gives guidance if need be. Chief Bird also recommended a mechanical CPR device called Lucas that performs CPR on its own. The equipment is funded by a nearly $120,000 grant awarded by The Department of Homeland Security.
Chief Bird says both purchases are under the full amount of the grant, leaving room to purchase more items in the future to fit the program.
