Stop Sticks End Streator to Ottawa High Speed Chase

OTTAWA – A late Wednesday night chase with speeds reaching 118 mph ended in Ottawa after stop sticks were deployed. According to the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, around 11 pm deputies attempted to allegedly stop a vehicle traveling south on IL Rt 23 towards Streator at a high rate of speed. The vehicle reportedly attempted to flee by traveling off road behind a business in the 2500 block of North Bloomington Street before returning northbound on IL Rt 23 at speeds reaching 100 mph.
The Ottawa Police Department were notified and deployed stop sticks on IL Rt 23 on the South side of the city. The vehicle stopped after one tire was deflated and four occupants fled the vehicle on foot. One female passenger was still at large, but the two other passengers were taken into custody, including at 18 year-old Ottawa woman.
The driver, 18 year-old Nicolaus J Phillips of Ottawa, was arrested after a short foot chase. He was charged with Reckless Driving, No Valid Drivers License and Fleeing/Eluding. He was also charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, as one passenger was a minor. Phillips was taken to the LaSalle County Jail with bond yet to be set. (PHOTO LASALLE CO SHERIFFS OFFICE)
