SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Police this week began installing license plate reading cameras on Chicago area expressways in an effort to help in the investigation of expressway shootings. There have been over 150 shootings reported so far this year. The $12.5 million dollar project will include a communication system to transmit the video images to a central location where software can match the plate number to state databases.
