Spring Snowstorm Dumps Inches Across North Central Illinois

Rain gauge reading in Tonica, IL suggests rainfall levels of .6 inches, an equivalent of 6-8 inches of snow.

CHICAGO – North central Illinois was hit with an untimely mid-April snowfall on Sunday. Upwards of 7 inches of snow fell during in the early morning into evening, accompanied by strong winds throughout the day. The rain and snow caused thousands of power outages in Illinois, low visibility and dangerous roads conditions. The storm was Chicago’s snowiest since 1961, postponing a Cubs game that Marquette Academy’s Senior Class planned to attend.   Travelers fared no better, with 1,000 flights canceled at O’Hare and 140 at Midway.  No new snow accumulation is expected this spring as temperatures could rise up to 72 degrees by Tuesday.
