VARNA – A “Ruse” residential burglary perpetuated by three men claiming to be with a power company occurred in Marshall County Tuesday. Around 6:30 PM the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office were called to rural Varna where a safe was reportedly stolen from a residence. Authorities say three unidentified males wearing neon reflective vests and surgical masks claimed to be performing work on the power lines in the area. The men allegedly claimed they needed to install a generator, then added that a device needed to be put inside the resident’s safe to keep their home from exploding. The home owner agreed, but was unable to open it, and then one man escorted the home owner outside while the others allegedly took the safe. The incident remains under investigation.
