LASALLE – Elderly victims are being targeted by a group of burglars in the Illinois Valley, according to the LaSalle Police Department. They say that these incidents occur during daylight hours where several men of Eastern European or Hispanic descent arrive at the victim’s residence and try to justify entry into the home. One person will distract the resident while the other subjects allegedly ransack the home looking for valuables. Authorities say often they’ll ask the victim to go to the basement, to turn on and off a light switch in a distant room, or to retrieve a bucket of water. The LaSalle Police are asking everyone to speak with their elderly neighbors, relatives and friends about this type of burglary so they know not to let anyone into their home. They say if you have someone you are unsure of at your door, to call 911 immediately and do not let them in.
