LASALLE – The city of LaSalle approved a petition to apply for a grant to expand Rotary Park through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Program is a state-financed grant program that provides funding assistance to local government agencies for acquisition and/or development of land for public parks and open space. The $400,000 grant would help to make a trail from Rotary Park to the Little Vermilion River. The expansion project would also include a new shelter pavilion, picnic tables and bathrooms near the playground. City Engineer Brian Brown says Rotary Park is a “large scale regional park that can benefit the whole county.”
