PERU – One man is in custody and another was treated for injuries sustained while fleeing after a report of shots fired
Monday night at a home in Peru.  The Peru Police Department say they were called to the 2100 block of Market Street for a report of shots fired around 10:15 PM. Minutes later, an individual was dropped off at the LaSalle Police Department claiming he had been shot at.  The 37-year-old man said he was injured falling into a ravine while running away from the alleged incident.  He was taken to the hospital via ambulance.  In the subsequent investigation, authorities took 34-year-old Semaj S. Jones of Spring Valley into custody.  He was charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Assault.
Chief Bernabei stated “This situation clearly could have had tragic results and like everyone happy no one was seriously injured or shot. I am also pleased with the immediate and joint response from numerous police agencies that resulted in the alleged offender to be taken into custody in just less than 90 minutes. The investigation into the motive is continuing but preliminarily we are investigating this to be a domestic related shooting.”
Peru police say the residence where the gunfire occurred had children present at the time.
