CHICAGO – Americans are expected to break travel records this Independence Day, according to the American Automobile Association. Nearly 47 million Americans will travel over 50 miles away from home the highest numbers in 18 years. In Illinois, 2.2 million will be driving and over 100,000 will be flying to their destination. Gas prices across the state are down 8 cents from last month and up 64 cents compared to last year. An analytics company predicts travel times in congested cities could be twice as long as the normal trip, with Tuesday being the busiest day.
